A dog by any other name

This last week, I went to visit an old friend. She was in town visiting her parents for the after-Christmas season, so I went to her parent's house. I had not been there since I was 11. Twenty years ago. I am so old.

I was met at the door by the most beautiful black lab / dalmation cross. She happily wagged her tail and sniffed my crotch. We got that right out of the way. There's no point in dragging these things out.

My friend's Dad came up to get her away from me and called her "Brin". He corrected himself and specified that actually her name was "Bronwyn" like mine "because of her... well... you know what Bronwyn means... white breasted". Immediately his face flooded with colour, he turned abruptly and left the house.

Yes, I am well aware of what it means. It has been causing me embarrassment and amusement for many years now. But that was my all time favourite reaction.

Joe: Oh sure. Laugh at my misfortune.

SSC: Usually people talking about my name meaning is more embarrassing for me. It was a nice change.
