Magic Time

Last week, I was to go on my third date with the same guy. My migraine prevented it, but now we're going out again. It is not that I don't want to see him again. The problem is "Date Three".

As I was discussing the impending third date at work, Goose informed me that "Date three is magic time." In simple terms, date three is apparently the time when you put up or shut up. In two basic dates you are supposed to decide if you are seriously interested in a person and date three seals it. I am pretty sure the stress of that thought is what lead me to migraine central.

Is casual dating not allowed anymore? Can you not "date" simply for the joy of getting out of the house with grown ups who aren't related to you? Can you not "date" someone that you have absolutely no romantic interest in whatsoever?

The answer? Apparently not. Which is problematic and inevitably leads to the "I just want to be friends" conversation. But I do! So it's not my fault that centuries of people have abused the excuse and ruined it for everyone else. Seriously.

So, date three has changed from meeting friends to just hanging out. And will you look at that? My headache is back. I'm just not cut out for this.

  2. B, I'm with you on this one. But then, who am I to talk? I haven't been a serious relationship in forever and I've never been in a healthy relationship.
