The Gift

December 30 Gift. This month, gifts and gift-giving can seem inescapable. What's the most memorable gift, tangible or emotional, you received this year? (prompt by @hroot)

Last year, I told the story of my last gift from my mom before she died.  A beautiful necklace with a heart locket.  After many exciting mishaps, the necklace was lost forever.  I still think about that necklace and what it meant to me in the short time I had it.

Fast forward to my birthday this year.  LynnieC came for the weekend and brought with her a gift from my brother and his wife.  A long jewelry box and in it, the most beautiful heart shaped locket.  It came with a note that they knew they could not replace Mom's necklace or what it meant to me, but they could give me another one to remember her by.

I bawled.

I've never worn the necklace -- I'm scared I will lose it -- but I open it up and look at it quite regularly and read the note.  It never ceases to make me thankful for my family and miss my mom.
