Wasting time and not in a good way

I spent most of the night chasing an awesome idea I had to spruce up the knitting bags I plan to make.  I hunted online for the right picture, figured out how to make it into a pattern, cut out the material, and took to painstakingly sewing it by hand in tiny stitches. 

Three hours later, it was clear it was not going to work.  Part of it might work, but may not be salvageable.  The rest?  A complete waste of time. 

Sigh.  I wasted three hours where I could have been doing something constructive.  Or, nothing at all.  Now I'm frustrated and the dog wants to go to bed.  Boo.

I'll try again tomorrow.
