Today is my wedding day

It took me some time to find the right song for our wedding. The song, like most things in my life, was something I knew what I wanted, but had no idea what I was looking for exactly. I didn't know what it was, but I would know when I saw (ahem - heard) it.

I wanted a song that spoke to who I was and how I feel about The Guy. I wanted every feeling of love to be captured in that one moment as I walked toward him. I wanted one perfect song to say that this is the moment and I choose to be with The Guy forver.

A bunch of us were sitting around one night and I explained my dilemma. Someone suggested looking at songs from my favourite artists. We went through naming songs by Blue Rodeo, Jann Arden, Jack Johnson, etc. When it came to Chantal Kreviazuk, I knew we had a winner. Originally, I had thought about another of her songs "Before You", but when I found this song, it was right. There was no more searching to be done.

"Feels Like Home" by Chantal Kreviazuk

Somethin' in your eyes, makes me wanna lose myself
Makes me wanna lose myself, in your arms
There's somethin' in your voice, makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life

If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how long I've been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you've done

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

A window breaks, down a long, dark street
And a siren wails in the night
But I'm alright, 'cause I have you here with me
And I can almost see, through the dark there is light

Well, if you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch
And if you knew how happy you are making me
I never thought that I'd love anyone so much

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way the back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

Today will be that moment when I stand in the entrance to the church and look down the aisle at The Guy waiting for me. This song will begin and I will walk toward him. This song will tell him the things I can't express in words. Like how important he is to me. Like how I have been looking for him for a long time.

Walking down that aisle today will be just like walking home.

  1. Oh man, I'm actually tearing up reading this post. I'm so happy for you guys, Bronwyn and Wade, and this song is perfect for you guys. I'll be here praying that the day goes well (and isn't too unbearably hot in the church!), and we love you both so much.

  7. Congratulations!

Ha! I was at a reception on Saturday and this was their song too! And I said to theMonica, "Why am I not listening to Randy Newman right now?" as she said, "Huh?" And I said, "I am going to the bar to see if the bartender remembers to put rum in my rum and coke this time."

  8. That is perfect. It must have been absolutely lovely. I almost went with that one for our wedding, but then decided to go with the one my cousin wrote.
