It would be funny if it weren't so true.

I was emailing Lyn about going to the gym and how things were going with our DIET FROM HELL. Here is a snippet of our conversation.

Lyn: Yup, I'll still go to the gym with you.

Me: You rock. KB cancelled today [actually, I just couldn't get ahold of her so I decided she must have cancelled]... so I'm having a nap. I suck at this.

Lyn: Yeah, you do. Have you lost anything yet, do you think?

Me: Likely just my self esteem and my will power. Have you seen them?

Lyn: Not for a LONG time.

    1. Not to muddy the water, but watch this for a fascinating talk about what we "know" about nutrition and how that knowledge was dispersed. It seems that a lot of what we've been led to believe should work (in terms of losing weight) doesn't necessarily cause you to lose weight.

Anecdotally, I can confirm the basics of it, having lost weight (i.e. fat) without caloric restriction of any kind and no real change in workout routine. Ok, I didn't explicitly count, but I didn't eat less, just different.

I'm not one to tell people what to do, so I feel somewhat awkward butting in. But I think what we all think is true about food (how our bodies process) has been simplified so greatly (in an effort to make it understandable to us, because, you know, we're all so stupid) so as to become useless to us in terms of applicability (and here is my 3rd parenthetical of this sentence).

I will again skulk off to the shadows, never to pontificate again!

    2. You're totally right. That's what I'm learning too. Trying not to fill my face with high calories, sugars and things that are bad for me. Not eating less, just eating not fast food take out. I think that sucks. I want the "all crappy food, all the time" diet to work.
