On and off, I am contacted by groups looking for someone to write something for gifts and/or money. I know a lot of them are spam requests -- companies sending things out to everyone without reading their sites -- but I'm usually pretty good at picking through those. You know, because they call me by the wrong name, etc.
But I got sucked in. One company looked like it was something I could actually work with. Interesting topics and things I would like to talk about. I signed up. Got a whole bunch of requests sent to my knitting blog, but nothing for this one. I emailed to ask WTF and was advised that they found the word "crap" in the title of my blog and url to be unsuitable for their clientele.
I feel a little bit like Dr. Johnny Fever in WKRP in Cincinatti when he got fired for saying "booger" on the radio.
I try not to swear on my site. I try not to be a raving jerk. I try to be funny, insightful, intelligent, and thought-provoking. I mean, yes, most of my posts are about poop, but still.
So, I'm not impressed with this company. I'm tempted to link to them and tell people to avoid them, but mostly, I don't want to give them the attention.
Crap.
Seriously, "Crap" is what offends them? How about "BUGGERING"??? Honestly. It's like people don't know old-timey dirty words anymore.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. Ky is dead on.
ReplyDeleteAt least they aren't insisting you apologize to Lawrence Welk...
ReplyDeleteMaybe they were creationists and were offended by the word monkies?
ReplyDeleteOr have bad taste in music?
