I got to shoot a gun!!! And it was awesome!!!

Today, the police called us at work to invite us to a Turkey Shoot. We give them money for cancer research and they give us guns. Real guns. To shoot things. My coworker and I waited for our coverage to come in and then went to help out. I wasn't sure I wanted to go, but I figured it was for a good cause.

After paying our $10 and standing in line forever, they led us into the shooting range. A nice older gentleman asked me if I wanted to shoot the silver gun or the black gun. After a weight test, I decided the heavier RCMP silver gun was better. Glasses, earphones, and ammo later, we were ready to go! He asked if I had ever shot before. Nope. Nothing? Nope. Not a rifle or a shot gun? Nope. Machine gun? Nope. Just the gun from Duck Hunt.

First shot, dead centre. Second shot, just to the side. And on and on for 25 shots. On three of my targets I got two bullets in the same hole. (Well, just overlapping each other.) He told me I was a natural and a good student!!! It was awesome. I could have shot all day. I finished my 5 targets before my coworker finished one. I stayed and watched her shoot, but mostly I was just so excited I could hardly stand it.

I texted The Guy to tell him all about it. He responded that he was immediately going to flee the country. Chicken.

I can't WAIT to do it again!!!!

  1. Now you will be wanting to carry a gun, like an American, and play cops and robbers or is it cowboys and indians?

    Good shooting, girl!!

  3. I know, it's awesome, isn't it? That's exactly why I must never own a gun or have one in my home. I would quickly become a menace to society. And probably to my neighbors.

You did great, by the way! Woot!

  6. I was astounded to when you said you weren't sure you wanted to do this at first. I figured you to be first to sign up! Bet you will be next time, though. Well done, although like my optometrist telling me I have well above average distance vision and would make an excellent sniper, sometimes such info is a little scary. So let The Guy run...just not too far.

  7. Congratulations. You've discovered what millions of people know - guns can actually be fun to shoot and aren't as scary as the movies (or the Government) make them.

I heartily suggest you do it again with the caveat that you take a class on proper firearm safety. Learn the '4 Rules' of firearm handling, hit the range every here and there, and enjoy yourself safely!

  8. Oh I am so PROUD!! Like a mother hen seeing her baby lay the biggest egg in the hen house! NOW you know why I LOVE guns!!! You have a natural ability and I'm grinning from ear to ear.

And don't worry about the man running. You can always pick him off, one knee at a time, and he won't get far.

  9. Congrats! Welcome to the club! If you ever get down to the USA in the Washington DC Metro area, drop me a note and I'll take you out to try some guns that you would have a hard time getting access to in Canada.
