When I grow up...

I've been so negative on here of late that I need to write something enjoyable. For many reasons, most of which are to prevent my readers from harming themselves out of my depression. So, here is a list of things I wanted to be when I grew up and reasons for them (whether or not they were accomplished).
  • Teacher: this was a common theme for me. I'm not sure why, but I think it had something to do with the fact that they were the only grownup job I actually saw for a long time. And there was something appealing about telling 25 people what to do and have them listen. I never did follow this path though - mostly because I don't like kids.
  • Cowgirl: I think I wanted to be a cowgirl only because of the outfit. What can I say? I like tassles and chaps. Come to think of it... maybe I wanted to be a stripper?
  • Ballerina: Stop laughing. I didn't know I had no rhythm, at the time.
  • Police Officer: this was the longest lasting career wish for me. From the time I was 12 until the last few years of my first degree, I wanted to be a cop. (And yes, it was all about having a gun.) But, I discovered that cops have no fun really and the life and death stuff wouldn't be often enough for me to stay enthralled. I am glad I didn't become an officer, although, at times, I still want the gun.
  • Mother: when I was a kid I fluctuated wildly between wanting to have 12 children by the time I was 30 and to never, ever getting married or having children ever. I still feel this way most days.
  • Sniper: gun, solitude, killing strangers... what could be better? I still flirt with the idea of this career. Especially this month.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

  1. Teacher was one of mine too for simailar reasons...and for the same reason I changed my mind. But my all time fav was/is from as far back as I can rememeber and still generally now, especially this week; I wanted to be a secret agent spy. You know, like James Bond but female. Lots of cool disguises, sexy foriegn men, cool weapons, above the law and such....very appealling to me!
Or I'd settle for a superhero with a cape and special powers. Perhaps I'll come into them on my 30th ... here's to hoping!!!!

  2. Astronaut - I even asked for a telescope for one Christmas. Instead I got a ghettoblaster and with that, my dream died.

  3. I was a rather boring child- I wanted to be an editor in a publishing house. I think it's a cool job, and I'd be ok at it, but... not for me.

  4. As I've said many times, I desparately wanted to be a princess and a Safeway cashier. Then, I moved on to writer/illustrator. Sometimes I wanted to be a teacher. And one time, I wrote in my School Day Treasures that I wanted to be a "Junior Executive." That's just because I got a stationary set called "Junior Executive" and I loved office supplies.

And May-B, I'd suggest assassin more than sniper for you. The movies Grosse Point Blanke and The Whole Nine Yards (which I watched back to back) make it seem cool.

  5. Pastry Chef - yes, really. Even when I was little.

Archer - Ok, when I was really little. Didn't really think about modern warfare not using archers. Be a cool assasin thing, though, wouldn't it?

Writer - life isn't over yet - this could still happen!

Ok, give me a break here, but...a safe house/recovery place for animals. Like the donkey sanctuary in Britain. Except I'd do it on a big farm in BC. May still do this, perhaps as a retirement plan.

Respite care for kids. Again, on a farm. A place where special needs kids can go so their parents get a break, and for the kids it is a vacation, not a "mom and dad need a break from me" stint in the hospital. Don't think I have the energy for that anymore, but you never know. One at a time, on the donky farm when I retire - I may do it yet.

  6. I think it is funny that Shannon's dreams died because she got a ghetto blaster. I'm just imagining a wee Shannon walking around her home town with it on her shoulder, sideways ball cap, track suit and many large gold chains. Of course she would be lsitening to LL Cool J "I'm Gonna Knock You Out".
